I’ve been doing a lot of firsts this past year and blogging is one of them. So here goes…
Hello there and welcome to my blog!
My name is Donna Avellana Künzler. I am a Filipina currently based in Zurich, Switzerland. I am married, my husband Patrik is Swiss, and we have a daughter, Tala, born just last September 2019.
I grew up in Bacoor, Cavite in the Philippines and lived there until I moved abroad in the year 2001.
It was never my ambition to live overseas. My perception of being an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) was somehow negative: hard labor, bad living conditions, cruel employers…miserable life! Tragic and full of drama as depicted in movies and Maalala Mo Kaya episodes. So when I did move to Singapore, I had planned only to stay for two years…and yet here I am, now living in my fourth host country and fifth city (I also lived in San Jose, California in United States, London in UK and Basel in Switzerland before Zurich).
With my blog, I want to let people know that being an OFW is not at all that bad. It can be fun, it can be fabulous! Away with the sad and oppressed OFW mentality- enter the Overseas Fabulous Pinay (Ovfabpinay for short)!
I will blog about my life as a professional Filipina living overseas, relationships and motherhood in general, style- I’m a big fan of Philippine indigenous products, food (I love to cook and eat), travel, and once in a while, I also want to feature fellow Ovfabpinays. Apart from general entertainment, my goal more importantly is to uplift the image of Filipinas based abroad and to inspire others.
